Didier Drogba to play tonight against Portugal

Ivory Coast Captain, Didier Drogba has been cleared by to put on a cast on his arm FIFA to play in tonight’s World Cup game against Portugal as the two countries begin their world cup campaign.

Drogba has been allowed to put on a protective arm band on his arm that got injured in Ivory Coast’s last friendly game with Japan. It had been feared the inspirational captain who plays for English premiership side Chelsea will miss some of the matches in the group stages of the World Cup.

The 32-year-old Drogba required surgery after fracturing his arm in Sion, Switzerland, in a collision with Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka – three minutes after Drogba had opened the scoring with a 13th-minute deflected free-kick.  

Ivory Coast Coach Sven Goran Erikson will be relived with the news as his team prepares to Confront Portugal in the opening Group G match.

Erikson says although Ivory Coast has many fit players, they need the services of Drogba if they are to qualify from what is arguably the toughest group, where Ivory Coast must get results from Brazil, Portugal and North Korea to get out of the group stages.
