Another bomb planted at new taxi park in Kampala, Uganda police to the rescue

Business in and round down town Kampala this afternoon was interrupted as people rushed everywhere and nowhere for dear life, following reports that another bomb was planted at the new taxi part in Kampala.

The Police Anti Terrorism Unit was called in by people who detected the bomb wrapped in a polythene bag (Kaveera) at the entrance of the new taxi park along Namirembe Road opposite Nakivubo stadium in Kampala.

The police who rushed to the scene asked people to vacate all buildings nearby the new taxi park and for vehicles to leave the taxi park as the police scanned around for any possible other bombs.

The taxis that load people in the new taxi park are now loading from the different streets and roads bordering the taxi park. Some shops which closed after the bomb scare are yet to resume.

The District Police Commander of Old Kampala Police, Siraj Baleke said the police is pleased with the vigilance of the people who are able to identify and report suspicious objects to the police. Another bomb was on Monday identified in Makindye house and reported to police which managed to detonate the bomb before it could hurt anyone.

While many Ugandans will be happy that a second bomb has been detected and dismantled by police before blowing, the incident will further underline the threat the country faces as it comes to terms with the Sunday July 11 incidents where three bomb blasts killed at least 76 people and injured another more than 50.

The government of Uganda has blamed the attacks on Somali militants Al-Shaba who claimed responsibility. The militants who are linked to Al Qaeda had for long warned Uganda to withdraw her troops from Somali where the Uganda army is deployed alongside the Burundi army as part of the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia.
