US orders Uganda to provide nutritional meals for school children

 

Millions of children inUgandareceive no or poor meals at school breakfasts and lunch. The Uganda National School Lunch Programs requires parents, guardians and ‘schools’ to provide nutritional lunch/breakfast and (supper for children in boarding schools).

But what happens on the ground inUgandais that thousands of children inUgandadon’t receive lunch and breakfast at schools. The good news however is that theUSgovernment, according to statehouse sources, has requestedUgandagovernment to look into the issue of lunch provisions at schools as one of the most important issues to be addressed.

Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process in Ugandaand in many other African countries. Lack of nutrition during the school days set up a cycle for poor performance in Ugandaand other African schools. Scientists indicate that school hunger makes children more prone to illness and other health issues. President Museveni has also bee fighting over the years to close or fill that nutrition gap and make sure children to get the nutritious meals they need.
