Matembe disappointed in MPs who received 5m from president

NRM financingFormer minister for ethics and integrity Maria Matembe has expressed disappointment with members of the 10th parliament for taking 5 million shillings from the president to facilitate their swearing in celebrations. Matembe told MPs  that she has already lost hope in them having gotten 5 million shillings from the president to celebrate their
swearing in.

Kapelebyong county Member of parliament in Amuria district Julius Ochen expresses anger with the National Resistance Movement party chairman Yoweri Museveni for telling the nation that he gave all MPs 5 million for celebrations without clarifying that he only gave the NRM MPs. Ochen who is an independent MP noted that he has been attacked by people as one MP who took the 5 million shillings.

During the election of the deputy speaker last month at parliament President Museveni said he did nothing wrong by giving each MP 5 million shillings ahead of the voting for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Museveni, said the money was not a bribe but he was only trying to“rescue” the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament from society’s daily demands.
