Finance minister wants gender equity from private sector on jobs

Finance Minister, Matia Kashaija, has demanded the private sector in Uganda to always consider gender equity as they employ workers in their respective work places as the only way the country will do away with the issue of gender inequality.

Speaking at a Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) meeting on Tuesday August 16, discussing its role towards discussing its role towards Uganda’s attainment of the sustainable development goals, in Kampala, Kashaija said that for fully attain the sustainable development goals, both genders have to be brought on board since they complement each other in life.

He further advised the PSFU members to consider investing in capital formation rather than investing their monies in lavish ventures which can see them off the market within a short period of time.

Kashaija also assured the private sector of government commitment to dialogue on issues that affect their smooth operations in the country. He said as a ministry, they will always strive to create a conducive investment environment for them.

Gideon Badagawa, the Executive Director, PSFU asked all business communities in Uganda not only to focus on profit maximization but that they should always strive to promote and protect social equity as this will create more markets and materials for production and hence the sustainability of their businesses .

Government and the private sector agree that they need each other if Uganda is to be driven into a middle income status nation as well as attain the sustainable development goals as set by the United Nations.

Meanwhile, government has confirmed to all companies that have extended services to it that come October this year they will have received their money.

Kashaija,  made it clear that this is not another way to bail out these companies by government, but that these companies earlier  supplied  government with goods and services and therefore require its money to enable it remain in business.
