Saudi Arabia leading in mistreatment of Ugandan workers – PLA

Human traffickingSaudi Arabia tops  a list of countries which are mistreating  Ugandans working in Arab countries followed by Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates according to a research by Platform for Labour Action. The June 2016 report handed over to parliament’s committee on Gender indicates that majority of Ugandans in the Middle East are victims of international trafficking. 73 per cent of the victims are employed as Domestic Workers and 16 per cent commercial sex workers while another section are employed as casual labourers on farms.
The Executive director, platform for Labour action Grace Mukwaya said most victims are falling pray due to high unemployment levels back home in Uganda. The Chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Gender, labour and social Development Margaret Komuhangi says that the report will provide insightful considerations for legislation on externalization of labour.
