Six dead in Wobulenzi car accident

Police identified the four of the deceased as Florence Nankumbi, 28, Patience Najuma, 28, Richard Lule, 30, and Isaac Mbogo, 32 all residents of Mukono District.

Six people have been confirmed dead in the Wobulenzi accident that happened on Sunday evening along Kampala-Luweero Highway.
The deceased were travelling in Vitz registration number UAS 163T and a Fuso truck registration number UAR 162G at around 4:30pm during heavy rains
According to ASP Paul Kangave, the Savanah regional Police Spokesperson, the Vitz driver was over speeding when he smashed into a truck as he tried to overtake a trailer. 

“A driver speeding in a Vitz from Luweero to Kampala overtook a trailer in Wobulenzi Township and on realising that there was another car coming from the opposite side, he tried to brake, but the car failed and it was knocked by a truck before swerving off the road leading to the death of its occupants,” he said.

Five people died on spot while the sixth person who was driving the salon car died shortly after arrival at Luweero Health Centre IV.

Police identified the four of the deceased as Florence Nankumbi, 28, Patience Najuma, 28, Richard Lule, 30, and Isaac Mbogo, 32 all residents of Mukono District.

“The police traffic department has tentatively blamed the fatal accidents on reckless driving. The driver of the box body truck escaped from the accident scene and is still on the run. We have got information that all the six occupants of the salon car are residents of Mukono District, “ ASP Kangave told the Daily Monitor on Monday.
