The Minister of Uganda for Internal Affairs, Al hajji Kirunda Kivejinja has finally talked about the problem of heavy backlog of cases in Uganda courts.

He attributes the heavy backlog of cases in the courts to a dysfunctional system within the judiciary.

It is estimated that the judiciary in Uganda currently has a backlog of over 40, 000 un-heard cases.

Speaking at the Justice Law and Order Sector case backlog clearance workshop on Monday, Kivejinja noted that delays in the systems have led to loss of public confidence in the courts.

Alhajji Kivejinja hailed the sector for coming up with a new project that will see at least 15,000 cases cleared over the next six months.

The Internal Affairs Minister also urged the justice law and order sector to improve is relevance to the public through reviewing of its programs.
