Low voter turnout is reining in Padyere County Parliamentary by-elections today.

The elections kicked off at 8:00am this morning but some poling stations had not received a single voter by 10:00am.

Padyere MP Seat fell vacant in February this year after the death of the former area MP, David Ringe Chan.

Five candidates are in the race to replace David Ringe Chan namely Joshua Anywarach (Independent), Okwir Amula of Forum for Democratic Change and Dr. Odoch Paschal of the ruling National Resistance Movement.

Others are Ngabirombo Kizito (Independent) and Charles Olangi of Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC).

The real race is between NRM’s Dr. Paschal Odoch and UPC’s Charles Olangi.

Police and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces soldiers are deployed throughout the constituency.

Police have made several arrests in Erussi and Parombo sub counties.

The Regional Police Commander of Nebbi, Patrick Otika confirmed the arrests and said the force is enforcing law and order.

Some voters claim that they have failed to trace their names on the voters register.
