5 held for degrading Kampala swamps

At least five people in Kampala district have been arrested today in Busega, a city suburb for allegedly degrading a swamp along Kampala –Mityana road.

The suspects will appear before court on Thursday to answer charges of degrading swamps. The group is detained at Natete police station.

The suspects were arrested on orders of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

They were found cutting papyrus in swamps. The suspects, all of them women have denied the charges, according to statements they have recorded at police. Moses Buzaale of Natete police says the suspects are enemies of nature.
