Ugandans are asked to pay money before they can get registered in the on-going national voter registration exercise.

The Kibaale district returning officer, Sebastian Rwengabo told journalists that his office has received several complaints from people who are told to pay money to register for voting in the 2011 Uganda general elections.

The national voter registration exercise started on May 3rd and expected to end on 14th June 2010.

Rwengabo says the people of Kibaale district claim that some officials of the Electoral Commission in charge of updating the national voters register are the ones asking for money as a condition for them to be registered.

Efforts to get a comment from the Chairperson of Uganda Electoral commission, Eng. Badru Kiggundu were futile by press time.
