Mbabazi defends creation of new districts

The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Amama Mbabazi has defended the creation of new districts.

NRM Secretary General, Amama Mbabazi

The government has made almost every one or two sub counties a district. Mbabazi says that the creation of new districts is prompted by peoples’ demands and desire to bring services near to people.

He says the people who complain that the government is partitioning the country should urge people to stop demanding for districts. Mbabazi was addressing NRM cadres at NRM head offices in Nakampala today.

The NRM government took over power when the country had 25 districts but it now has 114 districts.

Mbabazi also says more people in different parts of the country are demanding for more districts. Critics argue that the creation of more new districts increases the taxpayers’ burden. Since the National Resistance Movement government captured power in 1986 it has created 89districts.

This means 89 LCV chairpersons, 89 Residential District Commissioners,  89 women MPs, 89 districts police commanders, hundreds of civil workers,  and hundreds of deputy Resident District Commissioners among others.
