This comes hardly two months after mudslides hit Eastern Uganda district of Budduda which claimed the lives of over 500 people and left over 8000 people displaced.

The district is an area on the slopes of Mt Elgon , making it prone to mudslides because of the hilly nature of the landscape.

Wanyotto told journalists at Parliament that the EAC has a programme on environmental conservation on the Mt. Elgon region which isn’t effective enough to cover such a diverse region.

She says bad human agricultural practices like tilling up and down the slopes contributed to the recent Bududa mudslides.

Wanyotto says EALA has already informed the Secretariat of the concern and waiting for a response.
