Prisons urge government to extend free education

Prison authorities have appealed to the government of Uganda to extend the Universal Primary Education program to the inmates.

The Head Teacher of Luzira Prisons, Anatoli Biryomumisho says the primary section in Luzira which holds the largest number of inmates has limited facilities, calling for urgent government intervention.

Biryomumisho says that the small number of teachers usually makes it difficult for them complete the syllabus, affecting the inmates performance in national examinations.

He says education plays a key role in transforming the inmates calling for more support the next financial year 2010/11.
