Uganda government to increase salaries of civil servants

The Minister of Finance Planning and Economic development, Syda Bbumba has said that the government has already budgeted for the increment of salaries of civil servants in key strategic areas.

He says the salaries of scientists, teachers, health workers and low cadre staff in the security service will be increased by 30 percent in the 2010/11 financial year.

While reading the 2010/11 Uganda budget at Kampala Serena Hotel, Bbumba said the increment will improve service delivery because it will spur innovation.

The minister indicated that 3 billion shillings has also been allocated to enhance the salaries of commissioners in government ministries.

To further spur improved delivery of government services, the minister indicated that a performance contract will be introduced to check the performance of civil servants
