In the Financial Year 2005/2006 KCC spent 79 million shillings on spares, repairs and servicing of KCC’s vehicles but there are no inspection reports and certification of work done on the vehicles.

As the city engineer, Byandala was obligated to inspect and certify the work on the vehicles, which he never did.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government Accounts, Abdu Katuntu says the committee has summoned Byandala to face the committee and explain why he never issued the inspection reports and the certification of the work on the vehicles.

Katuntu says they hope Byandala will respond to the summon next week and give a clear explanation on this issue.

Eng. Byanda denies allegations of embezzlement and says, he is not in any scared of the summons.

Corruption remains a major hindrance to the growth and development of the country, the recent World Bank report indicates that over 500 billion Uganda shillings is swindled annually.
