Former Uganda NSSF boss says ALCON case should have been settled out of court

The Former Deputy Managing Director of the Uganda National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Prof. Mondo Kangonyera has said that it would have been better if the NSSF had settled the case opened against it by Alcon International Limited for canceling a contract to construct Worker’s House.

Kagonyera is the former deputy to David Chandi Jamwa who is already in Uganda Luzira prison facing charges of mismanagement of NSSF fund.

This follows a revelation earlier this week to hire two additional lawyers at a cost of 500 million Uganda shillings to save it from losing the case.

The embattled NSSF which is facing problems of financial mismanagement of Uganda workers savings stands to lose 20 billion Uganda shillings if Alcon wins the case.

Kagonyera who is also the Makerere University Chancellor told the Uganda Parliamentary Committee of Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises that he advised NSSF when working as the Deputy boss to settle the case out of court because it was cheaper.

He says settling the case in Uganda Courts of laws was caused by a lot of public outcry who never trusted the NSSF fund’s management of working out a transparent deal with Alcon.

The NSSF vs Alcon case is now in the Uganda Supreme Court.
