Uganda urged to pass law to regulate traditional medicine and practices

A report on Sexual and Gender Based Violence has urged the government to regulate traditional practice as means of fighting gender based violence in Uganda.

The report which packages incidents of Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the print media is titled “A synopsis of SGBV in the print media”. The gender based violence report records that 4.3% of incidents of gender based violence reported in the media are a result of human sacrifice.

The report says that one of the factors that have caused the continuance of human sacrifice in Uganda is the failure of the government to regulate the activities of people that practice traditional medicine.

The report says these traditional practitioners are many time behind incidents of human sacrifice which is one of the aspects reported to be form of gender violence in Uganda.

The report recommends that government should regulate traditional practice to help fight human sacrifice which is a form of gender based violence.
