Uganda Police launches campaign against murder

The police in Uganda have today launched a campaign against the wide spread murder cases in Buganda Kingdom.

The police political commissar, Assan Kasingye has told journalists in Kampala during the launch of the drive that over 120 cases of murder have been reported in the central region of Uganda since the beginning of 2010.

He says Kiboga district leads other districts in Uganda with 48 cases, followed by Mpigi, Nakaseke, Lugazi, Luwero and Kayunga.

Kasingye says the campaign against murder will involve late night police patrols to help improve security.

He says most of the murder cases registered by the police have been linked to witch craft, land wrangles, domestic violence and mob justice.

The police plans to intensify community policing and to create more awareness on how best to resolve conflict in society without resorting to violence.

The police political commissar says the force is concerned that the courts are very slow in handling murder cases taken for prosecution. He says the delayed justice is frustrating their efforts.
