Ugandans mourn death of Ebonies star Cissy Muwanga

Theatre lovers in Uganda are mourning the death of  Cissy Muwanga, one of the key stars in The Ebonies, Uganda’s leading drama group.

Cissy Muwanga  popularly known ‘matron’ for her role in the Ebonies’ long running ’90s TV series, Bibaawo and ‘Maama Naka’ for her role in That’s Life Mwattu has passed on today at the International Hospital in Kampala. She was 57.

According to Sam Bagenda the leader of EboniesMuwanga breathed her last at around 3a.m this morning at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) where she has been hospitalized for the last four months.

He said she had been suffering mainly from a clot in her leg that had paralyzed her for some time and has been battling high blood pressure.

Cissy Muwanga has been one of the Ebonies longest-serving members and she has acted in all their plays since she joined in 1982.
