Walk to work protesters plot to over throw government-statehouse fears

Presidential press secretary Tamale Mirundi says that the police cannot let walk to work protests to take place in Kampala because their organisers want to use them to over throw the Kampala government.

He says the state is aware of all the plans by FDC and DP allegedly to use the walk to work protests to overthrow the government of President Yoweri Museveni.

Mirundi says opposition political parties are hiding behind A4C to mobilise people whom they want later to command to invade statehouse and overrun the government. Mirundi however says that the state is aware and can not allow such “hooliganism to take place”.

Mirundi’s statements have come at a time when police have arrested a number of people in connection to walk to work protests. Sixteen of the arrested people have been charged with treason, a capital crime of planning to overthrow the government by use of forceful means.

Mirundi says that A4C Coordinator, Mathias Mpuuga and his opposition team have dreams that they can duplicate the riots that have been taking place in Arab countries in Uganda. “They are forgetting that the political dynamics in Arab countries are different with those in non Arab countries,” Mirundi says.
