Intelligence reports split FDC

Reports of spies having penetrated into Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have tornUganda’s main opposition party into several factions, Walakira Nyanzi reports.

The members of FDC are now divided into tribal factions with the northerners accusing the Baganda and Banyankole of being spies in FDC while the Baganda are accusing their counterparts from Rukingiri (Bakiga) of being spies.

One of the FDC activists in FDC Kampala office, Janny Nakasolya was over heard yesterday quarreling with her colleagues in the party that she is tired of being branded a spy. Nakasolya says that when FDC leaders from Rukungiri organise parties and they invite RDCs orUgandagovernment ministers as guest of honour, no one calls them spies but when the party supporters in Buganda and northern Uganda do the same the party president Col. Kiiza Besigye and his closest cohorts in the party calls them spies.

Another FDC activist, Farida Nakabugo says that when recently Nakasolya visited the former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya she was branded a spy yet there are many FDC leaders who secretly meat state officials at night and they are not called spies.

Recently the FDC leadership inKampalasuspended the party chairperson ofKampala, Livingstone Kizito on allegations that he and the woman MP forKampala, Nabilah Sempala ‘sell’ the party youth to statehouse. Both Nabilah and Kizito deny the allegations against them.

The FDC official in charge of the youth inBuganda, Sheikh Ibrahim Kasozi says that the problem with some FDC members is that when a lower party cadre gets known in government circles that person automatically becomes a spy but when a senior FDC official befriends the state that relationship becomes normal.

He explains that this is the reason why most FDC youth inBugandasupports Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu instead of Besigye because Muntu doesn’t believe in reports of spies. Kasozi says that Muntu has been telling them that even spies have a right to be FDC members.
