Uganda is set to increase power production this month with the commissioning of the first 25mw phase of Bujagali hydro electric power dam.
The dam has been commissioned today by the Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
The dam is designed to supply power to the national power grid. The 25mw is half the capacity of the first turbine that will produce 50MW when the entire project is completed in July this year.
Commissioning the project, Mbabazi urged the officials in charge of running the Bujagali project to review the volume of water required from time to time. Bujagali project requires over 850 cubic meters per second to maintain its optimal capacity.
