Nabeta to petition against Jinja FDC victory

The loser of the Thursday parliamentary by elections in Jinja East, Nathan Igime Nabeta has threatened to petition court challenging the out come of the Thursday polls that was won by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Paul Mwiru.

Nabeta who lost the polls with a margin of 2000 votes alleges that Mwiru bribed his way to victory. Nabeta bagged 6,057 votes while Mwiru bagged 7,715 votes.

There were five candidates in the race who were eyeing the vacant seat. Others were the Democratic Party’s Alex Mufumbiro, (scored 291 votes), Independent candidate Cranmer Dhikusooka (28 votes) and Uganda People’s Congress’ candidate, Osinde Onzu who tailed with only 16 votes.

Nabeta alleges that Mwiru bribed voters and ferried them on the voting day. The seat fell vacant last month following a Court ruling that nullified the election victory of Nabeta over voter bribery.
