UPC appoints Joseph Kony’s lawyer to defend it in high court

In a surprising move, Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has hired the lawyer of LRA rebel leader, Joseph Kony, Ayena Odongo to represent it in the high Court. The UPC members hired Ayena at a cost of 20 million shillings to represent them in a petition they want to file in the high court against their party president, Olara Otunnu.

The party members want the court to order Otunnu to call the UPC national delegates conference.  Currently Otunnu has refused to call the party’s delegates conference for fear of losing his post in the conference. Other lawyers Otunnu’s enemies in the party have hired to represent them in the battle against Otunnu are Hamza Sewankambo, Chris Opoka and Edward Rurangaranga.

Rurangaranga says that they also want the court to rule that all the party officials Otunnu sacked recently were sacked illegally and they should be reinstated. Otunnu also yesterday told the media that he regrets why he joined UPC.
