Police report clears NRM chairman

Police the whole of last month was investigating Abdulla Kitata, the NRM chairperson of Lubaga division in Kampala over allegations that he calls himself an aide to the Inspector General of Police Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura and cons people of millions of shillings and property.

The probe started after a member of NRM in Lubaga told police that Kitata in addition to conning people, mobilizes youth to takeover administration of city markets whose chairpersons refuse to give him money.

The police also heard that Kitata recently was seen at Busega roundabout market mobilizing the youth who reportedly assaulted police officers. And that Kitata conned Kayikura after informing him that he knows all the groups of opposition youth whom opposition parties use to stage riots in the city.

Kayihura reportedly gave the rioting groups motorbikes, chicken and hard cash in order to persuade them to stop the habit. Kayikura was later informed that the items did not reach the beneficiaries.

The police further investigated Kitata over allegations that he mismanaged the 500 million shillings president Museveni donated to boda boda riders in Lubaga and that he receives bribes from people who build structures in wetlands located in Lubaga.

However the police investigations found out that Kitata was a victim of political interests among NRM members in Lubaga. The report by a police detective inKampala, Moses Muhairwe indicates that Kitata, a resident of Kitaka zone in Busega parish has never conned market vendors, mismanaged Museveni’s funds meant to benefit boda riders, and has never assaulted any policeman as it was earlier reported. In fact the report shows that Kitata is a law abiding citizen who has helped the police in Lubaga to eliminate thugs in the area. When contacted Kitata also confirmed that he is not a policeman so there is no way he could call himself an aide to Kayihura.
