IPU conference costs Ugandans 36 billions

Over one thousand delegates have converged in Kampala this week to participate in the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference and its related meetings.

The conference has been hosted by the Parliament of Uganda and it has brought together over 150 Parliaments of the world. The world MPs have come to deliberate on matters of access to health, good governance and distribution of power in Uganda, East Africa, Africa, Europe, Asia and the world at large.

The Speaker of Parliament Ms Kadaga Rebecca says that over 1,400 delegates have arrived for the meeting.

The meeting is taking place at the Kampala Serena and Imperial Royale Hotels in Uganda’s capital city Kampala. The IPU conference has cost Uganda’s taxpayers 36 billion shillings. This amount of money if it was turned to road construction it could have built a road from Kampala to Gulu or from Kampala to Mbarara. The same amount of money could pay primary teachers in Uganda for six months or buy drugs at Mulago hospital for two years.
