How to handle a nosebleed

How to handle a nosebleed: as soon as a nosebleed begins, sit up. Pinch (using thumb and forefinger) the lower part of the nose using a handkerchief.

Face towel or cotton wool with a firm grip; exert pressure on the nose for about 10minutes. Holding the nose applies pressure directly to the bleeding vein and prompts the site of the bleeding to coagulate or thicken into a scab.

Alternatively, pack the nose with cotton, leaving some of it outside with hydrogen peroxide or vaseline, and leave it in place for hours even after the bleeding stops. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, call a medical doctor.
