Joseph Kony: I fight to purify Ugandans

Gen. Joseph Kony is the head of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a guerilla group operating in Uganda, Southern Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central Africa Republic (CAR) that the US calls a terrorist group.

Kony and his LRA fighters enjoyed strong public support during its formation in northern Uganda before it reportedly turned against civilians.

Gen. Joseph Kony told people in the initial stages of forming LRA that he wanted to purify Ugandans and turn Uganda into a theocracy state. Kony could tell Ugandans that he was the spokesperson of God in Northern Uganda and a child of African spirits. Indeed many people feared and believed in him.

The people who have been with Joseph Kony for a long time tell us that he brags that (evil) spirits visit him a Chinese phantom. LRA believes in African traditions, bible, mysticism, Islam and Christianity.

Kony says the moment God helps him and he takes over state power in Uganda he wants to rule it on the 10 commandments.

The international court of justice accuses Kony of commanding the abduction of children, women, killing unarmed civilians and displacement of people. He was indicted for the war crimes he and his army reportedly committed on the people of east Africa.
