Pay TV to offer local content

The pay television players in Uganda have now switched focus on broadcasting local content as one of the ways of beating the competition they get from local television channels like WBS, Bukedde FM and NTV among others.

These pay TV players have entered into partnerships with free-to air broadcasters, something they say will enable them to attract more local viewers and widen visibility.

Pay TV service providers like Zuku, and star times a regional pay television say they plan to broadcast content that has a direct bearing and impact on their views in east Africa and Uganda in particular.

The new initiatives include broadcasting local movies, talk shows, travel and cooking shows.

The pay TV service providers think of featuring leading comedians in East Africa projects that by the end of 2012 they will have doubled their subscriber base.
