Police summons Meddie Nsereko, threatens to close radio CBS

It seems press oppression is slowly returning to Uganda. The Central Broadcasting Service (CBS Buganda Radio) presenter, Meddie Nsereko Sebuliba has been summoned to report at Central Police Station (CPS) over hosting powerful opposition MPs to discuss politics with weak cadres.

Meddie appeared at the police for interrogation on Monday and the police asked him why he last week hosted Political Opposition MPs to discuss about hotly contested Lwengo by-elections.

During the programme in question, the opposition MPs reportedly asked why the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura was camping in Lwengo until the end of election. There is heavy armed military deployment in Bukoto South in Lwengo, an action opposition MPs interpreted as intimidation of voters.

The development comes just days after the NRM Chairman for Buganda, Hajji Abdul Nadduli warned of the abolition of Buganda kingdom if NRM Candidate in Bukoto South parliamentary by elections is defeated by the DP Secretary General, Mathias Nsubuga.

It is said that President Museveni and Kayihurra campaigned for their NRM Candidate, Alintuma Nsambu on Sunday. Sources in Uganda police told us that CBS radio may be closed if it continues to host MPs critical of Museveni’s leadership while denying chance to those who support the government.
