Museveni sends 5 battalions to Lwengo for Thursday’s elections

Although the people of Bukoto South in Lwengo district (greater Masaka district) have been peaceful throughout the parliamentary by elections in their area, two battalions have camped there for Thursday’s elections.

Each battalion comprises of 1,000 soldiers so the president has reportedly sent 5,000 soldiers to camp in Lwengo for the by elections. The Inspector General of Police Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura and his troops and Major Roland Kakooza Mutale of the infamous ‘Kalangala Action Plan’ are also camped in Lwengo reportedly to forge chances for the victory of NRM’s candidate in the race, Alintuma Nsambu. The real meat of the race is between DP’s Mathias Nsubuga and Alintuma Nsambu.

Kale Kayihura and President Museveni both finalized their campaigns for NRM Candidate Alintuma Nsambu on Tuesday. But many voters in Lwengo have been overheard as saying that ‘they will not be intimidated by Kayihura, Aronda Nyakairima and their heavy military deployment. But they will go ahead and vote for the candidates of their choice and safeguard their votes.’ The seat fell vacant after the high court nullified the election victory of Hajji Muyanja Mbabali.
