Major reshuffle in police, Nabakooba, Asuman Mugyenyi out

 

A major reshuffle has taken place in Uganda police. The Inspector General of Police, Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura has appointed senior detective Commissioner, Simon Kuteesa the new police spokesman replacing Asuman Mugenyi.

The new police spokesman will sit in a newly formed police unit under Kayihura’s office that will oversee the media relations and monitoring.

Ms Judith Nabakooba, who has been the deputy police spokesperson has been replaced by Emelian Kayima, whose origins are in Rwanda.

Kayihura has named Mugenyi the Police Political Commissar and Nabakooba his deputy. The press unit has been established to provide expertise to Uganda Police, monitor the media for possible criminal cases, and analyse the media trends in Uganda and the neighbouring countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Southern Sudan, Burundi and Tanzania.

The police boss has also removed regional police spokespersons: Ibin Ssenkumbi for Kampala Metropolitan area; Zurah Ganyana (Hoima) and Polly Namaye (Mbarara) to the new Press Unit.
