Gen. Mugisha Muntu vows to succeed Col. Kiiza Besigye as FDC party president

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Mobilizer, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has vowed to succeed Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye as FDC party president.

Speaking to his supporters in Kampala on Tuesday, Gen. Mugisha Muntu said that he has enough support for the post than his counterpart in the struggle, leader of opposition in Parliament, Nandala Mafabi. Both Nandala and Gen. Muntu have picked nomination forms for the presidency of their party, FDC.

It seems the race for FDC party president will be only between Gen. Muntu and Nandala as other FDC members have expressed no interest in the party. Muntu says that even if other party members pick up the forms he is sure of victory following his vast knowledge in the party affairs and the Uganda’s politics.

The race follows Besigye’s announcement early this year that he wanted to retire before his term of office elapses in 2015. Besigye reasoned that he threw the towel off so early to give time to whoever would takeover the leadership from him to prepare early for the 2016 national elections. The FDC exercise of picking up the forms will go on until August 12th.
