Researchers discover links between diabetes and obesity to children disorders

Obese women and those with type II diabetes could increase their chances of having a child with Autism or another development disorder, according to recent US studies.

Researches at the University of California show that the high glucose levels during pregnancy could affect brain development in foetus.

The paediatrics study looked at 1,000 children and mother over seven years.  The children were aged between 2 -5 years and were enrolled between 2003 and 2010.

Among the children whose mothers had type II diabetes during their pregnancies, the study found out that 9.3% of them had autism and 11.6% of that group showed evidence of developmental disability. Therefore it was discovered that obesity and diabetes had links to child disorders.
