Uganda National Teachers’ Union ask government for pay increase

The Uganda National Teachers’ Union is asking government for a special jubilee gift as Uganda prepares to mark 50 years of Independence on October 9th.

The teachers want government to allocate 20% of the national budget to the education sector as a special package for the celebrations to mark 50 years of independence.

According to the Chairperson of Uganda National Teachers’ Union, Margaret Rwabushaija, this will help improve the quality of education over the next 50 years.

She says inadequate facilitation and poor remuneration affects the teachers’ morale which in turn impacts negatively on the quality of the graduates.

This she says has a direct effect on the level of the country’s economic development
