MPs, government disagree on Uganda population growth

The state minister for planning Matia Kasaija has disagreed with mps on the National economy committee over the country’s population size with MPs insisting that a large population is a threat to the country’s development and proper planning.

While discussing vision 2040 plan by the national planning authority the mps said that the large population is eating into the country’s growth yet the President and his government are encouraging it.

Rwampara County mp Vincent Kyamadidi says the President is misleading the country when he encourages people to have more children.

The mps say that if the country is to register more economic growth then a big population should be discouraged.

However Kasaija says that the high population is not a threat but the focus should be on the quality where people should be given good health and education.
