NRM’s Ofwono Opondo appeals to FDC’s Mugisha Muntu

The Ruling party NRM has asked the new elected president of FDC Mugisha Muntu to practice civilized Politics and avoid confrontations.

NRM Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo in an interview with Journalists at Parliament said Muntu faces a big challenge of building the grass root structures for FDC that will merge the massiveness of NRM.

Opondo said NRM is ready to face any candidate from the Opposition .

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party says that the election of Mugisha Muntu as FDC president will help unite the opposition.

DP legal advisor Fred Mukasa Mbidde says that Muntu has been a neutral person in his party and a man of integrity.

He adds Munt’s victory will also help reenergize the opposition.

Mbidde also appeals to the leader of opposition Nathan Nandala Mafaabi to work with gen Muntu in keeping his party united.

Muntu trounced Mafaabi in a hotly contested race that attracted 3 candidates.

He replaces Dr Kiiza Besigye who has led the party for 7 years.

Several members of parliament across the political divide have congratulated maj General Mugisha Muntu upon his victory.

Speaking to Journalists  Mps including Odonga Otto,Joseph Sewungu, Mathias Kasamba and Patrick Nsanja said he was a good choice for the party leadership and have a lot of expectations of him.

Muntu garnered 393 votes with Mafaabi scoring 360 votes and Geoffrey Ekanya scored 17 votes with only 6 invalid votes.

A total of 776 votes were cast.
