Police warns against illegal power connections

Shock has this morning gripped residents of Ssembabule Town Council after they discovered the body of one of the residents who is believed to have died of electrocution.

Siraje Mugerwa Kato a local electrician commonly known as ‘Kamyufu’’ is said to have met his death as he tried to fix the area transformer following days power outage.

According to an eye witness, Rashid Kabuye Mugerwa died on spot.

Ssembabule District Police commander Abdullah Kitimbo has warned the members of the public against using unqualified personnel to connect electricity to their homes or businesses.

He adds that cases of deaths caused by electrocution in the area are on rise which he blames on some unqualified people who are usually hired to illegally connect electricity to people’s houses.

The most affected places are Matete town council, Mijwala, Lwebitakuli, and Sembabule town council among other areas.

The most recent case is that of three year old Paul Serwadda who died after his mother one Kisakye Natukunda who was carrying him accidentally stepped on bare wires that connected electricity to a restaurant.
