Besigye condemns mistreatment of Bishop Zac Niringiye

Former president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has condemned the manner in which the retired former assistant Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Zac Niringiye and eight other clergies were arrested on Monday by the Police.

The Police in Kampala arrested and detained nine anti-corruption activists (clergies) of the Black Monday group including Bishop Niringiye. The group which was arrested at Makerere University was later released on police bond pending investigations.

But Besigye says that the way the Bishop and his cohorts were arrested was too brutal and inhuman. “How could police pull the Bishop as if they were arresting a terrorist?” Besigye wonders.

The Bishop was arrested for allegedly distributing anti-corruption leaflets which the police say was containing false and subversive language.

However, Besigye says that the Bishop was only giving out leaflets to whoever wanted and his message was not in anyway brutal.
