Lies from Uganda crown Inter-parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva

You may not know, your Members of Parliament might not have told you, but the Inter-parliamentary Union Assembly taking place in Geneva, Swaziland has been crowned by lies from the East Africa’s third economy, Uganda. Ugandans die daily in their tens due to lack of enough drugs and blood in hospitals, women deliver in bushes, under tree sheds and many children die below the age of 5 due poor health services in Ugandan hospitals. But the speaker of Uganda Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga told the diplomats and MPs attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting that Uganda is committed to implementing the Inter Parliamentary Union resolution on women and health.

The speaker of parliament has even went ahead to launch a maternal, new born and child health handbook for parliamentarians during the Governing Council Meeting of the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. Speaker Kadaga alleges that the Parliament of Uganda “is committed to implementing the Inter-parliamentary Union resolution on women and children’s health. She informed the Inter-parliamentary Union meeting that the Eighth and Ninth Parliaments of Uganda increased budgets for health, improved on the number of medical personnel and their salaries. But she declined to tell them the truth that most of those resolutions by 8th and 9th parliament of Uganda remain on paper.

Although hundreds of children die monthly across Uganda due to poor health services, Kadaga further told the Inter-parliamentary Union meeting that Uganda has made progress in the reduction of maternal and child deaths from preventable diseases.
