Opposition castigates Electoral Commission for being political

Parliament
Politicians on the Opposition side have castigated the Electoral Commission for being political as the Country prepares for the general elections come 2016.
Reacting to the statements issued by the Electoral Body warning Amama Mbabazi against holding Public rallies, Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi says it is unfortunate that the Electoral Commission is overstepping its mandate regarding political consultations by the aspirants. Kivumbi says the Electoral Commission has no legal basis to determine the approach Mbabazi or any other aspirant undertakes to consult the public.
He added that the statement issued by the Electoral Commission Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa indicates that the institution lacks the required independence for a democratic process in 2016. According to Mr. Mbabazi he is strictly acting within the law saying Consultations are not limited and reminded Electoral Commission to realize that their interpretation is not accurate.
