Opposition chief whip Cecilia Cecilia Ogwal Atim has criticized government for continuing to detain suspects beyond 48 hours. Ogwal who is also the Woman MP for Dokolo district said that government agencies should be mindful to laws so as they respect the rights of suspects.

This follows the arrest of Kilak County MP, Gilbert Olanya, for inciting violence over government’s land demarcation between Amuru and Adjuman. She said that government should stop grabbing the people’s land for investors’ interests. She also said that their should be consultations first before this land is given out to investors and she defended Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya’s actions, saying what the MP is doing is right and people’s customary Land should be protected.

Ogwal said that government has to take a more human approach rather than a militaristic approach while handling matters related to land.
