Following the short fall in passport books at the passport department which scenario has taken many applicants to a wonder land for the past three weeks, the passport issuance department yesterday confirmed that it has ordered for 50,000 new passport books to print for the overwhelming number of new applicants.

Addressing journalists in Kampala the Commissioner Citizenship and Immigration passport control Nicholas Ongodia strongly refuted allegations that the department has had a shortfall in the issuance of passports due to insufficient books. The commissioner attributed the short fall to increased numbers of new applicants as he assured Ugandans that work of issuing new passports is on-going to those who have gone through all the required processes. He also adds that the express passport provision also necessitates the applicant to go through the whole process just like those applying for usual passports.

The department confirmed that the 50,000 new books will be in the country by the end of this month
