Government not using surveilance software – Bantariza

Spy

Government spokesman Col Shaban Bantariza rejects reports that government bought surveillance software from Gamma a UK firm, to shadow the opposition’s activities to manipulate the political scene to their advantage. Col Bantariza poured scorn on the source of the supposed documents used as evidence in the BBC documentary pinning Uganda government for using surveillance software to tail opposition’s activities.

Bantariza doubts the source of their reports saying Gen Ssejusa and any other defectors from the NRM and government cannot be trusted to give authentic information. Government denies any wrong doing saying any surveillance they have done has been for the security of the country.

Godfrey Twesigye a lawyer with Unwanted witness-Uganda a non-governmental organization involved in advocating for internet freedoms says given government’s continued denial, it’d be hard to gather evidence to sue them for their abuse of the right to privacy.
