
The Auditor General has released a new audit report 2014/15 highlighting different areas in government ministries and agencies where funds are misused and abused. While presenting the report to the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga, the Auditor General John Muwanga asked government to have a strategy of how to clear the outstanding pension arrears because they are reaching alarming level.
In the 2014/15 audit report the ministry of public service recorded an outstanding pension liability worth 199.2 billion shillings. Muwanga says that pension arrears continue to accumulate uncontrollably attributed to inadequate budgetary provisions over the years. He says that the ministry of public service doesnot have a comprehensive stock of past employees as well as a forecast of how the current government employees will retire .
The auditor general report recorded 4.3 trillion shillings as contingent liabilities in court cases against. It noted that the outstanding amount in court awards, compensations and other liabilities have accumulated to 479.26 billion shillings.
The report also highlights that a number of government entities are indebted to the tune of 77.7 billion shillings to international organizations which include the African Development bank, world Trade organization among others.
