Government to take cancer treatment nearer to communities

World Cancer DayGovernment has revealed plans to strengthen and extend cancer treatment nearer to the communities with plans to set up regional cancer treatment centers across all the country’s major regions. Addressing journalists ahead of the global cancer day slated for Thursday this week in Tororo , the director community clinical services, Dr. Anthony Mbonye states that the regional cancer centers will be set up in the districts of Arua, Mbarara, Mbale and Gulu as a means to reduce on the burden of numbers that come to the cancer institute at Mulago.

However, the director Uganda cancer institute, Dr. Jackson Oryem says that though government has injected more efforts in fighting cancer, it’s the people’s responsibility to change their lifestyle for them to avert catching the disease but also calls for the enactment to the cancer bill that is currently laying before parliament to help regulate funding, provide equitable services among other factors.
