President Yoweri Museveni has pledged to create a land fund to help squatters acquire land from their exploitative landlords. The President made the revelation while addressing his supporters who had gathered at Mpigi Police Station grounds in Mpigi District to listen to his campaign message.
“The continuous wars between landlords and squatters is not good for the country, we are therefore going to prioritize the land fund. It is the medicine that will cure the issues of land,” the President said.
He was speaking in relation to the ongoing land wrangles in the district that have left tenants landless as land owners are evicting and asking for exorbitant fees in land rent. “I did it for squatters in Ankole where I paid the Late Prince Barigye, and gave it to about 20,000 families,” he added.

Candidate Museveni urged the people to engage in income generating activities so that they bring wealth to their homes. “Don’t think that Museveni will come and rear your animals for you or that he should cultivate your garden for you, that is your responsibility which you should fulfill,” he said. On health, the President urged parents to sensitize their children on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and to also educate them on the ways of preventing the disease.
“I want to thank you for safe guarding your lives against HIV/AIDS. You should talk to your children, they should not be influenced by peer groups to engage in early sexual adventures. They should wait until they have fully grown, get their partners and go for checkup before getting married,” the President advised. He called on the local leaders to use different media avenues available to spread the message contained in the NRM manifesto.
“The NRM manifesto is a big book with 338 pages, it contains the plans and projects NRM is to undertake in the next five years, I request your local leaders to find time and go to radio stations, explain to you the contents of this book,” he urged.
