The National Environmental Management Authority has embarked on a process to reclaim the endangered Lubigi-Mayanja wetland. The Environmental authority has conducted an operation to forcefully dislodge all encroachers on the wetland in the north-west of Kampala.

Over 200 acres of the wetlands were degraded by unidentified people during the electoral campaign season, when they burnt, cut down and drained the swamp for activities and settlement. The communications officer at the National Environmental Management Authority Bob Ambrose Nuwagira says that whereas the people who illegally settled in the Lubigi Wetland were given time to leave, they never heeded to the call by the authority.
Nuwagira explains that the environmental law enforcement officers are to continue with this operation.
