The Chief Justice and Judges have been appearing before the Parliament committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Kajara county MP Steven Tasyobya over the budget for the financial year 2016/17 for the Judiciary at the High court, Kampala.
Justice Katurebe asked the minister of justice and constitutional Affairs to cause a resolution of parliament to increase the number of the high court judges from 51 to 82. He said that over-reliance on donor funding has affected the court saying that the funds are unpredictable and reducing hence affecting the work of the Judiciary. He added that government should construct more courts and buy land to accommodate the courts for a favorable atmosphere.
The committee chairperson Steven Tasyobya said that parliament has been steadily increasing the budget for judiciary and will work hard to lobby for the increment of its budget in the next financial year 2016/17.
